There are several hundred Rhode Islanders that have only 3 ½ weeks — UNTIL OCTOBER 5, 2017 — to renew their DACA work authorization or be at risk of deportation after March 5, 2018.

What you need to know:

• If you have a valid work authorization, you are allowed to continue to use it until its expiration date.

• If your work authorization expires between now and March 5, 2018, DHS will take renewal applications that are properly filed before October 5, 2017.

• DHS will not be accepting any new DACA application as of September 5, 2017.

• Any new applications that were pending prior to September 5, 2017 will be adjudicated on a case-by-case basis.

Several clinics have been set up in Rhode Island to offer free service for the renewal process. However, the DACA renewal fee is $495, which is cost prohibitive to DACA recipients who come from low-income families.
